Which MetaTrader 5 version should I download?
Use Windows or macOS for the full desktop environment with MQL5, Expert Advisors and Strategy Tester. Linux runs MT5 through Wine, WebTerminal works in a browser, and the iPhone, iPad and Android apps are intended for mobile trading and account access.
How do I install MetaTrader 5 on Linux?
MetaTrader 5 runs on Linux through Wine rather than a separate native Linux build. The current installation script can configure Wine and launch MT5 on supported distributions including Ubuntu, Debian, Linux Mint and Fedora.
Do I need to install MetaTrader 5 WebTerminal?
No. WebTerminal runs in a browser and can provide quotes, charts, Market Depth, trading orders and account access without a desktop installation. MQL5 development and Strategy Tester remain desktop workflows.
Can I trade from the MetaTrader 5 mobile app?
Yes. The iOS and Android apps support live quotes, charts, technical indicators, Market Depth, orders, positions and trading history. The available symbols and trading permissions still depend on the connected broker account.
Can Windows and Mac MT5 run Expert Advisors and Strategy Tester?
The desktop terminal is the main environment for MQL5 programs, Expert Advisors and Strategy Tester. Windows and macOS installation details differ, but strategy testing and automated-trading work are desktop tasks rather than WebTerminal or mobile features.

What login details do I need for MetaTrader 5?
For an existing account, you need the account login, the relevant account password and the correct trading server. The server and credentials are assigned by the broker or account provider.
Where do I find my MetaTrader 5 broker server?
The broker normally provides the server name in account-opening emails, onboarding information or the account dashboard. Choose the exact server assigned to the account because similar server names may connect to different environments.
Why can’t I log in to MetaTrader 5?
First check the account login, password and broker server. If those are correct, check the network connection and whether the account is active. A login can also fail when the wrong account environment or server has been selected.
Why are quotes or symbols missing after I log in?
Confirm that MT5 is connected to the correct server, then check Market Watch. A symbol may be hidden, unavailable for the selected account type, outside its trading session or not provided by that broker account.
Can I trade with an investor password in MetaTrader 5?
No. Investor access is read-only: it can be used to view account status and analyze prices, but it does not allow trading. Use the master account password when trading permission is required.

Which markets can MetaTrader 5 trade?
MetaTrader 5 supports multi-asset market environments including forex, stocks, futures, bonds and options. The actual instruments available to you depend on the connected broker server and account type.
What is the difference between netting and hedging in MT5?
Netting keeps one combined position for a symbol, with later trades increasing or reducing that position. Hedging allows multiple positions in the same symbol, including positions in opposite directions. The account system is set by the broker.
What is Market Depth in MetaTrader 5?
Market Depth shows the bid and ask price levels available for a financial instrument and can also be used for order entry. The number of visible levels and the way orders are executed depend on the market, instrument and broker.
What are the six pending order types in MetaTrader 5?
MT5 supports Buy Limit, Sell Limit, Buy Stop, Sell Stop, Buy Stop Limit and Sell Stop Limit. It also supports market orders, Stop Loss, Take Profit and Trailing Stop; broker and symbol rules can restrict how specific orders are used.
Why is my MetaTrader 5 order rejected?
Common causes include a closed market, disabled trading permission, invalid volume, insufficient margin, stop levels that violate symbol rules, unavailable prices or a server connection problem. Check the trade message, account status and symbol specification.
